For a city that is surrounded by sand and desert, Dubai is quite unique in the sense that it is a tourist destination offering a variety of fun and exciting beach and water activities. This means that if you’re planning on a holiday in this emirate, you don’t have to limit yourself to desert and other land-based activities and sports.
As long as you know where to go and which hotels in near the beach to stay in, you won’t run out of cool, wet, and amazing things to do in this city.
Here are some of the best beach and water activities you have to try while you’re in Dubai:
1. Swimming and sunbathing
If you want to start your holiday on a more relaxing note, spend some time on one of Dubai’s beautiful beaches. Take your pick from among the world-famous beaches here which include:
- Jumeirah Beach
- Palm Jumeirah
- Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR)
- Burj Beach
- Sunset Beach
- Al Mamzar Beach Park
These tourist- and family friendly beaches will allow you to swim and frolic in the cool waters from morning until night. You can also work on your tan while reading a book or listening to your favorite tunes.
You can also play volleyball or Frisbee, go for a run, bike, and skateboard in nearly all these areas.
2. Go on a private yacht tour
Another relaxing yet fun way you can enjoy Dubai’s waters is to spend a day on a privately chartered yacht. While on the seas, you’ll stop by various seaside tourist spots such as the Burj Al Arab, Dubai Marina, and The Palm Jumeirah. You can also request to see other sights as well.
Upon request, the cook on board can whip up some snacks or a barbecue feast for lunch. You can also ask the crew to stop in popular swimming spots so that you can take a refreshing dip as well.
3. Scuba diving
If you’re ready for a more thrilling water activity, start with scuba diving. Explore Dubai’s coast and Arabian Gulf on an undersea guided tour.
A popular diving site in Dubai is the Zainab Wreck. It is a deep wreck site, approximately 45 minutes from the Palm Jumeirah by boat. This diving site is highly recommended to advanced open water divers. Once in the area, you will encounter a lot of interesting sea life including batfish, barracudas, bannerfish, stonefish, and scorpionfish.
Another great way to experience Dubai’s amazing waters and marine life is through snorkeling. Popular snorkeling sites include the Ambassador’s Lagoon and the waters around World Islands.
Be ready to swim with thousands of fish, including friendly black-tip sharks, eels, and rays and more. You will also be amazed by the beautiful corals and other sea life.
5. Stand-up Paddleboarding
Also known as SUP, this water-based activity is a fun way to spend time under the sun and work out at the same time. Using a paddle, you need to stay on the board while traversing the waters.
It’s one of the most popular water activities today, thanks to numerous celebrities swearing by the fun workout they get while paddleboarding. You won’t have to spend too much to try this activity as well since the paddle and board are quite affordable and can be hired. If you’re staying at one of the popular Dubai beachfront hotels, find out if you can rent the equipment from them.
6. Jet skiing
A classic water activity everyone should try, you can enjoy Dubai’s seaside views by zipping along the coastline aboard a jet ski. Jet skiing is a fast and exciting way to see the city’s most popular landmarks which include the Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Beach, and Palm Island. You can also make stopovers at these landmarks for a short break or to take some photos.
Finally, one of the newest and most thrilling water activities you can try in Dubai is flyboarding or water jet-packing. Once you put on a small board and don the specially-made backpack that sucks up and releases seawater, get ready to be propelled into the air.
You can try flyboarding in Ghantoot, approximately 15 minutes away from Dubai. Even if you haven’t tried this before, you will still be able to fly around. However, be prepared for a crash landing or two during your first attempts.
Even though you’ll be in one of the hottest cities in the world, there are plenty of ways for you to stay cool and wet in Dubai. All of them are fun, too which will make your trip to this emirate truly unforgettable.
