Best Technology Innovations:
Large, innovative stadiums have become an integral part of the sports experience. Fans love to boast about how high-tech and comfortable their teams’ stadiums are, and every new stadium construction comes with leading features. The Edmonton Oilers have a new arena called Rogers Place, which will have every other pro sports team salivating. The gigantic arena features premier guest comfort and several creative ways to keep fans connected with the game no matter where in the stadium they are.
The LED Scorecube
The Edmonton Oilers will appear in high-def on a scoreboard that’s one-of-a-kind in the NHL. The new arena features a scorecube made up of four 46′ x 36′ screens. Each side is the same width, instead of two long and two short sides, improving visibility for everyone in the audience. With rectangular scoreboards, certain seats end up with a fantastic view while others end up with a smaller screen or a bad angle. The scorecube is the largest in North America.

The site of the new arena wasn’t environmentally sound before construction started. It was a tannery, part of the national railway system, and a parking lot. Pollution and waste contamination were probable, which meant that the man behind Rogers Place Arena, Daryl Katz, had a lot of work to do before construction could even start. Those building the stadium committed to LEED Silver building practices and have encouraged other downtown businesses to go green, too.
LEED stands for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and though it’s a U.S. agency LEED certifies building sites in other countries to underscore excellence. LEED Silver is one of four certifications, and builders have to meet rigorous standards at every stage of building. The committment involves many sustainability practices involving energy use, water conservation, and other building requirements.
TV and Wi-Fi

More than 1,200 TV screens grace the rooms and halls of Rogers Place. They provide live game coverage in the concourses, the clubs, and the suites. The arena offers Wi-Fi throughout the concourses, seating bowl, and clubs. From that Wi-Fi, hockey fans can download the Rogers Place app, which offers a long list of great features. Fans can buy tickets, view schedules, buy parking, watch videos, and get the latest Edmonton Oilers news.
Rogers Place Arena has best technology innovations suited for entertainment purposes outside of hockey. One main feature of the large stadium is the projection system that effectively makes the ice a huge screen. The images project directly from the scorecube; not only can hockey fans expect exciting things from this projection system, but people attending other events at the arena will be in awe of the creative uses for this best technology innovations.
Rogers Place is part of Daryl Katz’s larger plan to build up downtown Edmonton with real estate and entertainment. If the arena is any indication, the whole project should be spectacular when it’s finished. In the meantime, the Oilers have a fantastic stadium from which comfortable, energized fans can cheer them on.
